The Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) is proud to announce its official admission as a full member of the European Science Foundation (ESF). This decision was formally approved by the ESF Executive Board on 3 June 2025, following a year of constructive dialogue and close collaboration.
AERG is an independent, non-profit organisation that brings together and represents recipients of European Research Council (ERC) grants across all scientific disciplines. Its mission is to advocate for excellence-driven, bottom-up frontier research, and to highlight the broad societal benefits of fundamental science.
Since 2023, the ESF has been providing operational support to AERG in implementing its work programme. Becoming a full member marks a strategic milestone in this partnership, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration in support of Europe’s research ecosystem.
This membership aligns fully with the ESF’s 2024–2028 Strategy, which emphasises:
- Connecting research communities, disciplines, stakeholders, and regions
- Implementing a full spectrum of science management services
- Promoting excellence and inclusion in European research
AERG shares these priorities and is committed to working alongside the ESF to build bridges across the scientific landscape, amplify the voice of researchers in shaping European science policy, and promote a research culture that is open, rigorous, and inclusive.
About ESF Membership
The European Science Foundation plays a key role in fostering scientific cooperation and supporting science policy across Europe. Through a broad network of institutional partnerships, the Foundation coordinates over 80 active collaborations. AERG is honoured to join this esteemed group of ESF members, which includes leading national academies, funding bodies, and research institutes.
We believe this new phase will strengthen AERG’s ability to advocate on behalf of the research community and contribute meaningfully to shared efforts in advancing scientific excellence and responsible research across Europe.
